I recently had trouble installing update sp76605, but eventually made it and it shows in the Action Log as installed.
Now, it shows again in Available Updates, suggesting that it hasn't been installed or something has gone wrong with the HPSA checking system.
Has anyone seen similar or is this a local "issue" with the HPSA?

A couple of options:
Option - Change Settings, Trash the offending update
Open HPSA > Settings > set to "notify" you instead of automatically install updates:
Select "Check for updates, but let me choose which updates to download and install"
Click Save to exit and save your change(s)
Restart the computer and log in
Open HPSA > check for updates > Click on the offending update > Click the Trash icon
If you want HPSA to automatically update (as opposed to notifying you do run the program), edit Settings again to set HPSA to "automatic" updates > Save changes
Read sections, then decide how to proceed.
Option - The HP Support Assistant
Install the Latest version of HP Support Assistant
Remove the old version of HPSA
Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features
Scroll down, find, Uninstall the HP Support Assistant
After the uninstall is completed, Restart the computer and log in
NOTES
For "complete" cleanup of the old version of the HP Support Assistant: When / If asked whether you want to save any of the presets / personal HPSA information, respond to have any (personal) data associated with the program removed along with the HPSA software.
If you also wish (or need) to remove the HP Support Solutions Framework (from Programs and Features), FIRST uninstall the HP Support Assistant so the Framework software can be removed.
Download, Save, Install the latest version of the HPSA to your computer
Website / Download
- If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, select run as Administratorand install.
- After the software is installed: Restart the computer and log in
After the software is installed, PIN the program to your Windows Start Screen
Windows key (Start) > list "All apps" > open category "H"
Click open category HP Help and Support
Right-Click on HP Support Assistant > PIN to Start

Thanks for the suggestions - and apologies for not getting back to you sooner.
I spotted that HPSA had an alert / message, so I looked and, surprise!, that update is showing as recommended again.
(It still shows in the Action Log as having been installed on 23 October, so clearly the HPSA seems to be having trouble reading its own data! Is this left / right hand disconnect or do I expect too much of the product??)
Once more, I tried your suggestion in the highlighted section (reset options to check but let me choose, restarted, trashed the repeat update which now shows in the Action Log as deleted today - changed options back to auto important and saved).
Checked current version of HPSA: confirmed up to date at 8.6.18.11 (version and patch level). Is this correct?
Checked for updates ... and nothing shows, so that seems like it's "gone away", but I'll believe that when it doesn't reappear on the next (auto)scheduled check, due 14 November 2018.
(What does sp76605 do anyway - and do I need it more than the frustration that this loop is causing me?!)

You are welcome.
I cannot guarantee that the HPSA won't try to offer you this, or any other, driver or software more than one time. The reasons for the confusion on the part of the software vary. I don't have any access to the code. I can do no more than speculate, which is useless in context. For example, I would guess that the database (stored on your computer) that keeps track of installed updates was not read correctly. Again, useless - the software might be doing something else entirely.
In general, the HPSA can be checked whether there is an update for the HPSA.
Open the HPSA program > Click About > Click Check for latest version
Latest version on my Zbook:
8.6.18.11

FIXES:
- Fixes an issue which causes a blue screen event to occur when the on/off radio
button on the system is used.
If the software "glitches" again, consider removing it AND accept / select the option to also remove any of your personal information. Download and install a new copy of the HPSA software (HP Support Assistant) > Adjust the Settings the way you like, and continue from there.
HPSA is nice software and the code is getting smarter all the time. Huge program, thousands of lines of code, and it is controlling a very complex operation. Not perfect.
You have the option to manually check, download, and install Software and Drivers for your computer.
Open and find your computer:
- If necessary "Change" your Operating System and version
- Peruse the list (expand by clicking the little "boxes" with a + inside the box)
- Select, open the details, and read about any software / driver in which you have an interest / need
- Download and save the driver to your computer
- Double-Click on the driver package to install
You can also use HPSA to get a list of the proposed drivers / software (Adjust HPSA Settings to notify you as opposed to automatically download and install). Use that list as a reference when you open the Software and Drivers website support page for your computer. Expand the list, look for the driver, read and decide whether that software / driver should be (or needs to be) installed.
