  • Every time I try to turn on my laptop, it shows me a blue death screen with a happy face and tells me that my hard drive is damaged or something. How do I fix my hard drive? I tried many things like restarting, troubleshooting but still doesn't works. Please anyone help? I really need to fix my laptop. Thanks for reading this.

Hi:

Run the hard drive diagnostics test (F2) and see what it reports.

If you get a 24-digit failure code, the hard drive will need to be replaced and the operating system reinstalled.

I'm sorry for asking this, but where can I get a replacement drive and how to place it??? Please and thank you!

You're very welcome.

According to the product specs for your notebook, it comes with a 1 TB SATA 2.5" mechanical hard drive.

HP Notebook - 15-dw0037wm Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support

You have two options to replace the drive with a better performing one.

1. Replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SATA Solid State Drive (SSD).

If you don't need 1 TB of storage space, I recommend this model:

500 GB

Amazon.com: Western Digital 500GB WD Blue SA510 SATA Internal Solid State Drive SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/...

If you want to replace it with the same storage capacity as the original, then I recommend this one:

Amazon.com: Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SA510 SATA Internal Solid State Drive SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s,...

2. Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates that your notebook has a M.2 SSD slot.

Instead of replacing the 2.5" mechanical hard drive, you can install a M.2 NVMe SSD instead, which is even faster than a SATA SSD.

500 GB:

Western Digital 500GB WD Blue SN570 NVMe Internal Solid State Drive SSD - Gen3 x4 PCIe 8Gb/s, M.2 22...

1 TB:

Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SN570 NVMe Internal Solid State Drive SSD - Gen3 x4 PCIe 8Gb/s, M.2 2280...

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the drive replacement procedure for either type drive.

After you replace the drive, you can use the HP cloud recovery tool and a 32 GB USB flash drive to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.

Since you have no operating system on the new drive you installed, you will have to use the utility on another PC, and you will need to enter your notebook's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media.

Your PC's product number is:  6FV98UA#ABA
