HP Envy x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 16-ad0000 (8Z966AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, I need a Platform Configuration Restore for my HP Envy x360 16-ad0xxx. My laptop’s Feature Byte is missing the WLAN configuration, so BIOS is hiding all wireless options and Windows cannot turn Wi-Fi on. Symptoms: Wi-Fi adapter appears in Device Manager (MediaTek MT7922) but stays permanently Disabled No Wi-Fi toggle in Windows No WLAN/Wi-Fi options in BIOS at all BIOS and drivers are updated to the latest version HP Hardware Diagnostics say Wireless Module: PASSED Feature Byte still shows but is incorrect Updating or resetting BIOS did not restore WLAN What I need: Please regenerate the correct Feature Byte for my laptop using HP’s WNB/MPM tools and provide the Platform Configuration Restore file so I can rewrite the wireless configuration. Laptop Info: Model: HP Envy x360 2-in-1 Laptop 16-ad0xxx Serial Number:  [Edited] Build ID: 24WWPK1Z601#SABA#DABA Current Feature Byte (incorrect): 3K6b 7K7N aBap aqas awbB bVbh cAcb fPgB m9pn pqpr q6qt rV .r7 Once the WLAN value is added back to the Feature Byte, the Wi-Fi module will enable normally. Please escalate this to the team that handles feature byte regeneration / platform configuration restore. Thank you.

Hi @rankie70,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I’m sorry you’re going through this; I understand the concern and don’t worry I’ll help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  1. When did this issue start was it after a BIOS update, Windows update, or a hardware replacement?
  2. Have you tried any previous Platform Configuration Restore attempts, or is this the first time requesting one?
  3. Does the Wi-Fi adapter show any status at all in Device Manager (e.g., disabled, not functioning, or driver missing)?
  4. Are you comfortable running HP’s diagnostic or BIOS-level recovery utilities if provided instructions?

In the meantime, here are a few steps you can try:

1. Confirm BIOS settings

  • Even if WLAN is hidden, check under Device Options / Security → Built-in Device Options to see if there is any “Wireless LAN” or “WLAN Adapter” entry.
  • Some BIOS updates may reset or hide certain feature byte settings.

2. Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI

  • Restart → press Esc → F2 for Diagnostics
  • Run the Wireless Module Test (even though it previously passed) to confirm no intermittent hardware failure.

3. Reset BIOS to default

  • If not already done, load BIOS defaults, save, and reboot. Sometimes the Feature Byte may be partially restored.

4. Check Device Manager & driver

  • In Windows:
    • Right-click MediaTek MT7922 → Properties → Driver
    • Update or reinstall the driver
  • Sometimes a driver reinstall can allow Windows to override missing BIOS toggles for the module.

I hope this helps.
