Hello Terryann4,

Thank you for posting your concern,

Restoring WiFi and Bluetooth Icons on HP EliteBook 840 G5

If the WiFi and Bluetooth icons have disappeared from your HP EliteBook 840 G5 and the Airplane mode icon is not functioning, here are some steps to try and resolve the issue:

  1. Check the Wireless and Bluetooth Settings:

    • Press the Windows key, type Settings, and open the settings app.
    • Navigate to Network & Internet > Status and click on Network & Sharing Center.
    • Go to Change adapter settings and ensure that the wireless and Bluetooth adapters are enabled. If disabled, right-click on them and select Enable.
  2. Update Wireless and Bluetooth Drivers:

    • Open the Device Manager by pressing Windows + X and selecting it from the menu.
    • Expand the Network adapters section and look for any wireless or Bluetooth adapters.
    • Right-click on each adapter and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
  3. Check Airplane Mode:

    • Press the Windows key, type Settings, and open the settings app.
    • Go to Network & Internet > Airplane mode.
    • Ensure that the Airplane mode toggle is off.
    • You can also enable and disable Airplane Mode to reset connections.
  4. Check Function Keys:

    • Sometimes, the function keys may disable the wireless connections. Press the Fn key along with the WiFi or Bluetooth function keys (these may be marked with a wireless icon on the function keys).
  5. Check Windows Troubleshooter:

    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
    • Run the Network Adapter troubleshooter and follow on-screen instructions.
  6. Enable Bluetooth:

    • In Windows, search for Bluetooth and other devices settings.
    • Ensure Bluetooth is turned on. If you don’t see this option, it might be a driver issue.
  7. BIOS Update:

    • It's possible that a BIOS update might be required if the issue persists. Visit the HP support site, HP Support, and check for any available BIOS updates for your HP EliteBook 840 G5.

By following these steps, you should be able to restore the WiFi and Bluetooth functionality on your device. If the issue persists, hardware issues or deeper system configuration problems might exist, and contacting HP support for further assistance would be advisable.
