Although I have an Android phone, and have had for YEARS, I have found the USB connections with Windows PCs to be unreliable, at best.
So, I would like to suggest an alternative that I have found to be highly reliable -- using WiFi to transfer files.
On my Android phone, I use WiFile File Transfer -- you can probably find something much the same for your iPhone.
