Hewlett-Packard - USB - 11/11/2018 12:00:00 AM - 49.0.4395.18315... came with a windows update...and it does NOT pertain to me or my system and can't get rid of it...since I don't have what ever printer it is for!
Does anyone have any ideas!!??!!
It supposed to be and 'update'...but of course won't install because I don't have what it is 'looking' for!!
How do you get this bloody to go away??

@Bluebird48, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
We see that you're experiencing an issue with an old HP USB driver update (dated 11/11/2018, version 49.0.4395.18315) stuck in Windows Update, and it won't install because you don't even have that printer.
Here’s how you can remove it:
Option 1: Hide the Update (Recommended)
Microsoft provides a tool called "Show or Hide Updates Troubleshooter" that allows you to block specific Windows Updates from appearing.
- Download the tool from Microsoft here:
wushowhide.diagcab - Run the tool.
- Click Next, then select Hide updates.
- It will display all pending updates, including the Hewlett-Packard - USB driver.
- Choose that update to hide it.
- This will prevent it from showing up again unless you manually unhide it.
Option 2: Manually Remove the Driver Package (If Partially Installed)
If you see remnants of the driver in Device Manager (even under "hidden devices"):
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Click View > Show hidden devices.
- Look under Universal Serial Bus Controllers or Printers for any HP-related entries.
- If you find an old HP entry, right-click it and select Uninstall device.
- Also, check under Print queues for any related entries.
Option 3: Clear Windows Update Cache (If Stuck)
If the update appears to be "stuck" in Windows Update:
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
- Locate Windows Update, right-click it, and select Stop.
- Navigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download.
- Delete everything inside that folder (do not delete the folder itself).
- Return to Services and restart Windows Update.
- Reboot your computer.
This process can help clear stuck updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
