Hi @This_Bites,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
The error 800F020B typically means that Windows is trying to install a driver for a device that is either disconnected or not detected properly. Since this issue started after installing your HP Smart Tank 7602 printer, here are some troubleshooting steps:
1. Verify Printer Connection
- Make sure your HP Smart Tank 7602 is turned on and connected (via USB or network).
- If it's connected via USB, try using a different USB port.
- If using Wi-Fi, ensure that the printer is properly connected to the same network as your PC.
2. Manually Install the Correct Driver
- Go to HP's official support website and download the latest Smart Tank 7602 driver for Windows 7.
- Install the driver manually instead of relying on Windows Update:
- Disconnect the printer.
- Uninstall any existing HP drivers from Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Restart the PC.
- Run the downloaded HP driver installer.
- Reconnect the printer when prompted.
3. Hide the Problematic Windows Update
Since Windows Update is repeatedly trying and failing to install the driver, you can hide the update to stop it from installing automatically:
- Open Windows Update (Control Panel > Windows Update).
- Click Check for updates.
- Locate the problematic Hewlett-Packard - USB - 55.0.4935.2132 update.
- Right-click on it and select Hide Update.
- Restart your computer.
4. Run Windows Update Troubleshooter
- Open Control Panel > Troubleshooting > View all.
- Run Windows Update Troubleshooter and follow the instructions.
5. Check Device Manager for Conflicts
- Press Windows + R, type devmgmt.msc, and hit Enter.
- Look for any yellow exclamation marks under Universal Serial Bus controllers or Printers.
- If found, right-click and update driver manually (pointing to the downloaded HP driver).
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
