Hi @Biggstuff
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thank you for reaching out. We understand that your HP Chromebook is running Chrome OS version 77.0.3865.120 (32-bit), and you are unable to install applications or update the browser.
Based on the version provided, your Chromebook is running a very old Chrome OS release. When Chrome OS is significantly outdated, app installation and browser updates may stop working because the device can no longer communicate properly with current update services.
Please try the following:
- Connect the Chromebook to a stable Wi-Fi network and keep the charger connected.
- Open Settings > About ChromeOS > Check for updates and allow the device to search for available updates.
- If no update is found, sign out of the Chromebook and press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R to perform a factory reset (Powerwash). After setup, check for updates again.
- If updates are still unavailable, verify whether the Chromebook has reached its Auto Update Expiration (AUE) date. Once a Chromebook reaches its supported update lifecycle, Chrome OS updates and some app installations may no longer be available.
To help us provide more specific guidance, please share the exact HP Chromebook model number (for example, HP Chromebook 11 G8 EE, HP Chromebook x360 14, etc.) and let us know if you receive any error message when attempting to update Chrome OS or install apps.
We look forward to your update and are happy to assist further.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
Regards,
