If your HP Spectre touchscreen has stopped working, here’s a complete set of steps to help you fix it:
Step-by-Step Fix for HP Spectre Touchscreen Not Working
1. Confirm Touchscreen Is Enabled
- Press Windows + X, then select Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices.
- Look for an HID-compliant touch screen.
- If it’s disabled, right-click and choose Enable.
- If it’s missing, proceed to reinstall the driver.
2. Reinstall Touchscreen Driver
- In Device Manager, right-click the HID-compliant touch screen and choose Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop—Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.

3. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Turn off your laptop.
- Turn it on and press Esc repeatedly, then press F2.
- Go to Component Tests > Touch Screen.
- Run both the Touch Pointer Test and Drag and Drop Test.

4. Calibrate the Touchscreen
- Search Windows for Calibrate the screen for pen and touch input.
- Go to the Display tab > Click Setup > Choose Touch Input.

5. Update BIOS and Graphics Drivers
- Go to HP’s support site for your Spectre model and install the latest:
- BIOS update
- Intel or AMD graphics driver
