EliteBook 1040 G3
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I downloaded and tried to install HP Hotkeys Support on HP EliteBook 1040 G3 laptop (Win 7 x64).

The installation starts but fails everytime with an error message "File hotkeyservice.exe1 is not marked to be installed".

I've tried running setup.exe as an admin in command prompt and in Windows Explorer but with not luck.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Is there a previous installation of HP Hotkeys listed under Programs and Features?

Hi,

Do you get the same error with the later version on the link below?

Hi,

Unfortunately I'm getting the same error message with this (sp74473.exe) also.

Hi,

Try the following.

Install the 64bit version of 7-Zip on the link below.

http://www.7-zip.org/

When done, right click the installer sp74473, select 7-Zip, select extract files and then click Ok.

Open the newly extracted folder and you should find another entry for setup - right click this and run as administrator.

Any change?

Same result.  InstallShield Wizard unpacks "HP Hotkey Support.msi" but fails when the installation starts.

Hmm. A very good question. I don't see anything related to Hotkeys under Programs and Features, but noticed that an old version (G2) of HP Hotkeys is pushed to all our new laptops via SCCM. This version is incompatible with G3 laptops, but I guess it could cause this kind of behaviour with the new Hotkeys installation.

I'll do another clean Win7 installation, install hotkeys support again and let you know it works or not.

Ok, now I finally got hotkeys installed on a G3 laptop. The old installation -although it was not successful- did probably write something in the registry that caused the new hotkeys installation to fail.

Thanks for the help! This can be marked as resolved.
