If you want to disable the touchpad on your HP Spectre laptop while using an external mouse, follow these steps:
Open Settings:
- Click on the Start menu or press the Windows key.
- Click on the Settings icon (it looks like a gear).
Navigate to Bluetooth & devices:
- In the Settings menu, select Bluetooth & devices.
Adjust Touchpad Settings:
- Click on the Touchpad option under Bluetooth & devices.
- Find the option to disable the touchpad when an external mouse is connected. The exact wording may vary, but it is typically labeled as "Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected" or similar.
Disable the Touchpad:
- Turn off the toggle switch for this option. This should disable the touchpad when the external mouse is connected.
Using the Tab Key:
If you are not using an external mouse and need to navigate this menu using the keyboard:
- Press the Tab key repeatedly until the pointer rests on the Touchpad button.
- Press the Spacebar to select the button to disable the touchpad.
Adjusting Touchpad Settings via myHP App:
You can also use the myHP app for more customized settings:
- Open myHP:
- Go to the myHP app.
- Select PC Device, then go to Touchpad.
- Turn off the touchpad option when using an external mouse.
These steps should help you disable the touchpad on your HP Spectre laptop while using an external mouse.
