For my work I often need to get to the top of the document or the bottom of a document very quickly, but this new computer doesn't seem to allow me to use the SHIFT + END or HOME key. I've played with BIOS but it doesn't seem to matter either way.

Hi @KazFam,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Which exact HP model are you using?
  • Does the keyboard have a dedicated Home and End key, or are they combined with the Fn key?
  • Are you working mostly in Microsoft Word, Excel, or another application when you notice this issue?

 Troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check Key Mapping
    • On many HP laptops, Home and End are accessed using Fn + Left Arrow (Home) and Fn + Right Arrow (End).
    • Try pressing those combinations instead of the dedicated keys.
  2. Keyboard Layout Settings
    • Go to Settings → Time & Language → Language & Region → Keyboard.
    • Make sure the correct keyboard layout (e.g., US QWERTY) is selected.
  3. Update Keyboard Drivers
    • Open Device Manager → expand Keyboards.
    • Right‑click your keyboard → Update driver.
  4. Test in Different Applications
    • Try the shortcuts in Notepad or WordPad. If they work there but not in Word/Excel, it may be application‑specific settings.

I hope this helps.
