How can I install Windows 10 on new ssd?

Pavilion x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought a new ssd and before install it to my computer I want to install on it Windows 10.

How can I install Windows 10 as it is when I bought my computer? I mean how can I install Windows 10 on my ssd (before put it in my computer), with all application that hp install by default and, most importantly of all, how can I "install" also the recovery partition on my new ssd?

How can I install Windows 10 on new ssd?

Hi,

What is the brand of SSD? For example for Samsung you can use Samsung migration software (download from Samsung), for Crucial they give you Acronis.

You can use this software to clone the drive. You will need a SATA to USB adapter

Example:

https://www.amazon.com/SATA-Drive-Adapter-Cable-Black/dp/B07FDTY299/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=sata+to+usb&...

Personally, I would just perform a clean install like this:

Download media creation tool from Microsoft on PC (before replacing drive), run and create a bootable pendrive with the OS on it. (there is an explanation on the Microsoft web page on how to create the pendrive). Create the drive with Windows 10 Home 64-bit edition. Windows will automatically activate once installed and connected to the Internet.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Replace the drive.

If you choose this option you will need to use the pendrive to perform a clean install of Windows 10. You might need to disable fastboot and secure boot in BIOS (probably not). So, insert the pendrive in the PC and it should boot directly from the drive. If not, turn off the PC by holding the power button. Press the power button and immediately keep pressing ESC until the startup menu appears and then press F9 and choose the pendrive in the boot menu. Once it boots from pendrive follow the procedure to install Windows.

When finished installing allow Windows to completely update and find all or most drivers. You can follow this process by going into settings > Security and update > click on Verify for updates. You might need to reboot a couple of times.

I recommend installing HP support assistant which will help keep your drivers up to date and much more. You can download the latest version from here.

https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html

Once completely updated you can go into device manager and see if there are any missing drivers (there will be yellow exclamation mark next to the device). You can find these drivers and software on HP support page for your product.

Hope it helps,

David

Hi,

You do not really need the recovery partition as there are many other recovery options already available in Windows 10 and any HP recovery partition on your notebook would be with the older version of the OS or might actually not work.

If you clone the drive it will be the whole drive with all the partitions on it.

My choice would be to install Windows 10 and completely update through Windows and then HP support assistant. Install all the important software you use and then create a complete backup image of the installation which you can use when necessary.

You can get most of the preinstalled software on the Drivers and Software support page for your product. You need to insert the exact model, product or serial number in the link below which will take you to your product page.

Here is how to find it:

Can you provide the exact model number of your PC.Here is how to find it.

Recovery manager is installed once you first bought the PC. You can try HP cloud recovery which will let you create a USB drive with your recovery including software and drivers.

Regards,

David
