I used to have a C: drive and I recently went to add another drive to my PC. I want to move my download, documents, desktop folders to my D drive, as well as the Users folder to my D drive. How do I move them and set them as default?

Hi @Shork,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To change your default folders (such as Downloads, Documents, Desktop) to your 😧 drive on a Windows system, you need to perform a few steps. Here's a guide to help you move and set your default folders to your 😧 drive:

Create Folders on 😧 Drive: First, create the necessary folders on your 😧 drive where you want to move your files. For example, create folders named "Downloads", "Documents", "Desktop", etc., mirroring the structure of your current folders on the C: drive.

Move Existing Files: Move the files from your current folders (on the C: drive) to the corresponding folders you just created on the 😧 drive. Make sure you don't delete anything you might need.

Change Default Folder Locations:

  • Open File Explorer.
  • Right-click on the folder you want to move (e.g., Downloads, Documents, Desktop) and select "Properties".
  • Go to the "Location" tab.
  • Click on the "Move" button.
  • Navigate to the corresponding folder you created on the 😧 drive and select it.
  • Click "OK" to move the folder to the new location.
  • Windows will ask if you want to move all the files from the old location to the new one. Confirm if you want to move them.
  • Repeat this process for each folder you want to move.

Move the Users Folder (Optional): Moving the Users folder requires more advanced steps and may not be recommended for all users. It's generally not advisable to move the entire Users folder due to potential complications and issues with system updates and software compatibility. If you still want to proceed, you can find detailed guides online, but be cautious and ensure you have a backup of your important data before attempting such changes.

After completing these steps, your default folders should now be located on your 😧 drive, and new files you save or download should go there by default.

Remember to be careful when moving system folders, and always ensure you have backups of important data before making significant changes to your system configuration.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
