I looked it up on how to connect the mouse to the laptop and it said to hold the button on the bottom down so I did and it still isn't connecting, what do I do?

@becksterlone, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

It sounds like you're trying to connect a Bluetooth mouse to your HP laptop without using a USB dongle. I can help you with that! Please follow these steps to pair your mouse via Bluetooth:

Step-by-Step: Connect a Bluetooth Mouse to Your HP Laptop

Turn on the Mouse
Make sure your mouse has fresh batteries or is charged. Then, turn it on.

Enter Pairing Mode
Press and hold the Bluetooth or Connect button on the bottom of the mouse until the LED starts blinking. This means it’s in pairing mode.

Enable Bluetooth on Your Laptop

  • Click on Start > Settings (⚙️) > Bluetooth & devices
  • Make sure Bluetooth is turned ON

Pair the Mouse

  • Click Add device > Bluetooth
  • Wait for your mouse to appear in the list (e.g., “HP Bluetooth Mouse” or similar)
  • Click on it to connect. You may see a “Connecting…” message, and then it should say “Connected.”

Test the Mouse
Move the mouse to check if the cursor responds. If it does, you're all set!

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If the mouse doesn’t show up, try turning Bluetooth off and back on on your laptop.
  • Restart the mouse and try pairing again.
  • Make sure the mouse isn’t already paired with another device nearby.
