I read somewhere that hitting f4 would allow me to mirror screen to my smart TV through HDMI . My screen is cracked, and I need to do a factory reset. Do I need to disconnect the touchscreen ? I watched Youtube and one person said to just close the laptop lid and it will go to secondary screen. Nope, that don't work. Neither does pressing f4. What do I do?

The problem you're running into is that the video output jacks don't function properly until the drivers are loaded, and that doesn't happen until windows is at least booting.

When you are in the POST part of booting, those drivers are not loaded yet.

So, you can't use an external monitor as a replacement for the internal screen.

I removed the cracked screen, hit fn+F4 and it worked. Did a reset and now theres a problem with activation. Microsoft wants me to contact Walmart.com where I bought the refurbished laptop in 2016, and ask them for my product key. HA! Really? Ask Walmart.com for what? I shouldn't have  any problems with that request! I emailed their customer service  just for the entertainment value
