I have several paper documents with data in columns. Want to scan these to Excel and use HP supplied I.R.I.S. software which I think I have(?) with my Officejet 4500 to convert scans to an editable document using OCR. Please respond with step by step instructions as I am a novice on computers. Thank you.

Thaks Rainbow23. I tried many times & ways to get through to get the phone number for the help you suggested but did not succeed. My printer is apparantly too old so the serial/product numbers are not recognized. What can I try next? Can you set this up for me?

Hello, I have an OfficeJet Pro 8710 purchased March, 2018. I really do like it. I have over $50,000 of HP products. I have been using computers since 1978. I am not a novice. I have used HP since the 1980s, to include its scanners.
I am an HP Old Dog.
I can scan OCR just fine. Scanning a document using OCR is not a problem.
The problem is the output file, TXT and RTF.
Here is an example.
I have a 2page report. It has headers. It has 16 columns of data.
- Page 1 has 25 rows of data.
- Page 2 has 15 rows of data
PAGE 1
The output TXT or RTF file of the OCR scan of page 1 places the 16 columns of data one-over-top each column. The TXT or RTF file does not have 16 columns and 25 rows of data; rather, the TXT or RTF file has 400 rows of data (16 * 25) in 1 column of data.
PAGE 2
The output TXT or RTF file of the OCR scan of page 2 is as expected. It has 16 columns and 25 rows of data.
OBSERVATION
Clearly, I know how to scan.
I have scanned documents, for decades, using OCR so that columns of data can be used in MSWord and MSExcel.
The HP OCR code produces output that is not reasonable. Frankly, the OCR output is worthless makeing the OCR software code that I paid for a waste of my money.
The solution offered here in this 10/06/17 response to the customer does not apply to my 8710 purchased 10/2018 because I do not have any of the options offered to that customer.
QUESTION
How do I use the HP OCR software that came with my 8710 to scan a document with 16 columns and 25 rows of data on multiple pages such that the TXT or RTF file can be imported into MSExcel into columns with the MSExcel spreadsheet looking like the scanned document?
Could I get step-by-step instructions that correlate exactly to the HP software that came with my printer?
Thank You,
An HP Old Dog

No available OCR software which comes with your printer can do this work because they can ONLY scan to editable text (rft format or simply text).
There are few commercial software to convert scanned files to Excel but the conversion process WON'T give us 100% results. We still have to manipulate MANUALLY inside Excel to get final results. If you wish, please try

or
