Zbook Power G8, 313S6EA#AB9
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

How do we track our laptops if stolen? We recently bought some Zbook Power G8 laptops (313S6EA#AB9) and we would like to prevent a lost equipment problem: what security measures should be implemented to prevent stolen or lost hardware? How can we track the device and (maybe) recover it ?

If you're asking about special hardware or software to enable tracking, then as far as I know, the answer is no.

I have installed the Absolute software on all my laptops to enable tracking but I had to do that on my own.  I'm not aware of HP preloading this on any laptops.

Sorry, but this is only a Support Community staffed mostly by volunteers and we can do nothing to track or recover missing property.

If you were signed into your device using a Microsoft account (you would know because your login screen would have shown an email address or you would be using a PIN code), then you can follow these instructions from Microsoft:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/11579/microsoft-account-find-and-lock-lost-windows-device

But, if you were signed in to your device using a local account, then you are basically out of luck.

What I recommend is contacting HP using this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true

Contact the local law enforcement authorities about the missing PC -- provide them all the information they need and show them proof of ownership. You will most likely need to this to have then return the PC to you if they find it

When the lost PC is returned, contact Absolute Software to see about getting Lojack for it. That enables you to report a lost PC and then locate it, once it is then connected to the Internet.

Hi WAWood, thanks for your support.

We don´t want to recover any laptop (yet).

I just wanna know what technologies we can use to track and possibly recover any losty equipment.

Since the Zbook is a professional model, it could have something built-in that could help on this.

The Microsoft, Absolute, Prey, solutions are OK, but what happens if someone change the SSD?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
