What program or utility are you using to see messages?

You can use Facebook Messenger to aggregate some of your messaging apps, but you still won't be able to send SMS message like you can from a mobile telephone.

SMS is for mobile telephones.

A laptop that has a mobile broadband option still isn't a mobile phone.

It uses the mobile broadband  card to access the internet via the transceiver in the notebook.

Actually that is not correct, a sim is just a means of transporting mechanism so all sims accept calls or sms unless the sim is locked. Mine isn't but there is no software available to allow mw to use my x2 1012 for sms and calls because I suspect Microsoft want you buying their crappy credits on skype.

Case and point, the old USB 3G mobile modems came with software that allowed you to sms or call from... the only thing thats changed is the revenue to be gained by using a provider and buying credits.
