HP Spectre x360 13.5 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ef2000 (771X1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

When I started my new laptop (Spectre 2-in-1), I used my company's MS Exchange email but to register it I entered the free email account that I used to purchase the laptop at HP.com. Now my laptop thinks THAT is my primary account so I can't download the MS Office365 apps included in my Exchange account. Please help! HP support does not seem to exist.

Hi @elizabethmoore ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Changing the primary account on a Windows 11 laptop involves a few steps. Here's a general guide to help you change the primary account on your HP Spectre X360:

Note: Changing the primary account involves creating a new user account and migrating your data. This process may require reinstalling applications and configuring settings. Before proceeding, make sure to back up your important data.

Create a New Local User Account:

  • Go to "Settings" by clicking on the Start button and selecting the gear icon.
  • Click on "Accounts" and then select "Family & other users" from the left sidebar.
  • Under "Other users," click on "Add account" and follow the prompts to create a new local account. Make sure it's not associated with any Microsoft account during creation.

Sign in with the New Account:

  • Log out of the current account and sign in with the new local account you just created.

Change the Account Type:

  • Once logged in with the new account, go back to "Settings" > "Accounts" > "Family & other users."
  • Click on the account you just created and click on "Change account type."
  • Change the account type to Administrator.

Log in with the New Administrator Account:

  • Sign out of the current account and log in with the new administrator account.

Remove the Old Account (Optional):

  • If you no longer need the old account, you can remove it by going to "Settings" > "Accounts" > "Family & other users." Click on the old account and select "Remove."

Reconfigure Windows Store and Office 365:

  • Open the Microsoft Store and sign in with your Exchange email account.
  • Install or reinstall Office 365 apps if necessary, making sure to sign in with your Exchange account during the installation process.

Transfer Data (Optional):

  • If needed, transfer your data from the old account to the new account. You can do this by copying files and folders from one user's profile to another.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
