Hi,

I'm wondering if my HP EliteBook 840  G5 can work in a UEFI-GPT setup? Currently, it's configured in legacy BIOS with a legacy setup and Windows 10. Though it's working fine, I read that UEFI-GPT has more advantages.

Hi:

Yes, your PC is supported to run Windows 11, so it needs to be able to run with Windows installed in UEFI mode.

Back up any important files you don't want to lose onto a portable hard drive and watch this video for how to easily convert your drive from MBR to GPT.

How To Convert MBR To GPT For Free In Windows 10

After the conversion is successful, you have to restart the PC and change the setting in the BIOS to disable legacy mode and enable secure boot.

To get into the BIOS as the PC restarts immediately tap...tap...tap...the ESC key to get the menu of options.

Select the F10 Setup option and press the Enter key.

Change the BIOS settings, save them, exit the BIOS and restart the PC, and your will be running Windows in UEFI mode with secure boot enabled.

Here are the BIOS menus you should see.

I recommend you read these first before doing anything, so you are ready to go when you restart the PC.

Looks like the settings you need to change are in the advanced menu as far as I could tell.

According to the instructions, you mouse over each setting and it should display more details, but I wasn't able to do that for some reason.

Your other option would be to clean install Windows and boot the installation media from the (U)EFI USB flash drive, not the legacy one.
