Hello. Is it possible to disable the USB ports when the computer is off? Since I have an optical mouse connected, it stays on all the time because when I turn off the laptop, the USB port starts drawing power and drains the battery. Please get a sensible answer because I've read previous answers that didn't solve any problems. It makes no sense for the USB ports to continue drawing power when the laptop is off! That's what power banks are for!

I spent 1700€ for this laptop and there is NO way to disable the USB Delivery Ports when the Laptop is off!!! Incredible!! I don't use my laptop like a powerbank and I don't want to unplug the peripherals connected to my laptop every time I shut it down, because otherwise they would drain all the battery power!

Hi @Giloc,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding USB ports remaining powered while the laptop is turned off. We understand the importance of preserving battery life and appreciate your feedback, especially for a premium system like the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14-fh0000 (AJ9P8AV).
Your device includes USB Power Delivery (PD) and HP Sleep and Charge capabilities. These features are designed by default to allow charging of external devices—such as phones or peripherals—even when the system is in sleep, hibernate, or shutdown (S5) states.
While this behaviour is useful for many users, we understand that you may not want your USB ports active during shutdown, especially to prevent peripherals like optical mice from draining battery power.
Workarounds You Can Try:
1. Check for USB Charging Settings in BIOS
Some HP laptops have a setting like:
- “USB Charging in Off State”
- “Always On USB”
To check:
- Restart your laptop and press F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.
- Look under Advanced > Power Management or System Configuration.
- If you see a setting related to USB charging, disable it.
- Save and exit.
⚠️ On many newer HP models, this option is not exposed in BIOS.
2. Use a Powered USB Hub with On/Off Switch
If BIOS doesn’t offer control:
- Use a USB hub with a physical power switch.
- This lets you cut power to peripherals without unplugging them.
3. Use a Smart Plug or Timer
If your mouse or other devices are powered via a docking station or USB hub:
- Plug the hub into a smart plug or timer switch.
- Set it to turn off when the laptop is shut down.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Maybe I wasn't clear. We spent an hour trying to resolve the issue with WhatsApp Customer Service, but it's impossible to change the setting either through the BIOS or through Windows 11! HP should update the BIOS to allow disabling the USB Power Delivery ports when the computer is off. Right now, this is NOT possible! How is it possible that this feature isn't supported on a computer costing nearly €1,800, and I therefore have to buy a physical power switch?

Hi @Giloc,
I completely understand your frustration — you've made a valid point, and I appreciate the time you've taken to troubleshoot the issue both independently and with our WhatsApp support team.
As of now, most HP consumer notebooks, including premium models like the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip and Spectre/Pavilion/Envy series, do not have this feature, and it is not configurable on the majority of current consumer models. Only certain commercial systems like HP EliteBooks may offer this level of USB port control in BIOS.
We are formally forwarding this concern to our backend product engineering team for internal review and consideration in future firmware or BIOS updates. Your feedback will help us shape improvements for upcoming releases.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
