After trying to upgrade to Win 10 2004 and analysing the logs there are a lot of errors with HPwarrantychecker.exe and I would like to remove it temporarily and see if it lets me upgrade to 2004. I have uninstalled Support Assistant but there is still 1 instance of HPwarrantychecker.exe with system permissions set so I cannot delete it. How do I change permissions so I can delete it for testing.

Remove both the HP Support and Assistant AND the companion software. (#2 below).

  1. FIRST uninstall the HP Support Assistant

Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

Scroll down, find, Uninstall the HP Support Assistant

After the uninstall is completed, Restart the computer and log in

Important:  When / If asked whether you want to save any presets / personal HPSA information, respond to have your personal data associated with the program removed along with the HPSA software.

NOTE:  If the software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and then shows up again, or is otherwise not “going away” when you tell it to do so, try an Uninstaller program.

Microsoft:  Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

  1. Next, Uninstall HP Support Solutions Framework software from Programs and Features

NOTE:  HP Support Solutions Framework is a subset of HPSA.  For this reason, HPSA must be uninstalled before the Solutions Framework can be removed.

  1. Restart the computer and log in.

Just FYI...

Before you migrate to Windows 2004, consider that there are still compatibility issues, software problems (some severe), little or no HP driver support, printers tend to stop working, and your other "not HP" installed software will likely have to be removed / reinstalled (assuming there are versions that work in the new Windows).

I have done that but HPwarrantychecker.exe is still located in the Webapp folder, I dont think it is being loaded but just want to be sure that it is no longer causing any problems.

As for 2004 I have been on with that since release preview trying to get it on my HP 250 G7 laptop with it getting to 30% installed then blue screening and rolling back to 1909.

I have also done two other Desktops with 2004 and no problems, both self build, one is even 32 bit with a Pentium processor which shows you how old it is and they both are working well.

Path on my Workstation to HPWarrantyChecker.exe

C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP Support Framework\Resources\HPWarrantyCheck\

I do have installed (but don't use) the HPSA software.
I would guess if you find the file, if don't want the executable, you can force rename it or remove it.

As to the migration - all is good as long as you are happy and informed.

Good Luck.

Stay Safe.

Thanks I will lookup the path of the remaining EXE and see if it is a restore point or not as soon as memtest has finished running.
