Deep_World, any ideas here with the added posts? I also now see that this seemed to start after an HP Software Driver update on 1/21/26 ( HP Inc. Driver Update (1.85.4367.0)). Thanks HP for futzing us all up! Please try and rectify this!

That's just from yesterday:

And there's more, today and in preceding days.

And indeed, triggered by this:

Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: HP Inc. Driver Update (1.85.4367.0)

Care to fix it ASAP, @HP, please?

The fact that there are 6 people with the same question in a recent timeframe shows a problem...and your suggested solution for #1 , #2, #4 and #5  is not fixing it.  My HP Pavillion All-in-One PC 27, Product 577B6AA is up to date with all updates and drivers.  So that leaves #3.  If I remove this HP Display Control how do I reinstall it?  It's my understanding this is a third party program, so where would I find it to reinstall it?  Do I need this program?  This issue has become very annoying!

...so having dug a bit more about it just now:

1. This is something that Microsoft, not HP, pushed en masse to (some? all?) HP devices few days ago, without asking for:

krzemien_0-1770305322999.png

2. One can find the hpcustomcapcomp.inf_amd64_XXXXXXXX.ini file along matching hpcustomcapcomp.inf_amd64_XXXXXXXX folder here:

C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

CAUTION: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE ANYTHING FROM THAT REPOSITORY, OTHERWISE RISK BREAKING YOUR OS!

3. When I run setup files via HPDCSetup.exe (contained within), I am ultimately getting:

krzemien_1-1770305552740.png

Which confirms, that this is something that should not have been pushed to my device in the first place.

4. I have never had installed nor used this service on this PC.

In the view of rather complex HP<->Microsoft relationship in that respect, I do therefore wonder how long it will be before it's reverted, or mopped up.

This so frustrating for me too... and I am having the exact same things happen... I have an HP All-in-One Desktop PC 24-cr0000i (70P28AV) ...

When I went to Device Manager and looked at the Software Components, I found HP Application Enabling Services.  I scanned for hardware changes and nothing, but when looking at properties I was able to see a list of events that dates back to the day after I set this computer up.  There are many other errors and issues occurring too that started with this and as I am searching everywhere for answers from HP more specifically... I have not seen them respond to a lot of the question s on this issue.

The problem is caused by the HP Inc. Driver Update (1.85.4367.0)

The only way I fixed mine was to roll back that driver in Device Manager then  I went to Software Components Device then I opened  “HP App Enabling Service” then I opened the rriver tab in that and selected roll back and restarted my HP and everything went back to normal.

I had this same issue on my HP ENVY TE01-4000i series Desktop PC running Windows 11 Home, version 25H2.

It seemed to start after HP Inc. Driver Update (1.85.4367.0) was installed.  I started getting up to 14 "HP Display Control Service -- Unsuccessful application installation" warnings a day in Reliability Monitor.

After 6 days of this I found a solution by a poster DonT54 on another thread on this site that's titled:

Optional Driver Update(1.85.4367.0) Causing An Unwanted 3rd Party Service To Try & Install

Per his post I went to:

     Control Panel->Device Manager->Software components->HP Application Enabling Services

I opened the Driver tab and verified the Driver Version was 1.85.4367.0

I selected Rollback Driver.  Once this completed, I verified the Driver Version now displayed 1.83.4311.0

It's been one and a half days now with no more warnings.

Thank you it worked! Good job!

...not trying to put spanner in works, but: what guarantee do you have that this component will not get updated silently again upon next Window boot, or (more likely) windows update run?

HP Recommended

Thank you! Its been driving me nuts. I know it might only be a short lived fix, owing to the driver having to be updated again at some point automatically, but at least for now it will give it a break.
