17-by0016ng
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

On the 17-by0016ng the F5 Key has no special function like the other F-keys. When i will use the windows "refresh button" i have always to press FN+F5, that sucks! So i only want that the F5 key works without the FN Key. How do i change that?

Jackson

Hi @Jackson0

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the Action Key/ Hotkeys.

Please try these steps -

1.) Press and hold the Power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

2.) Turn on the computer and immediately press the f10 key repeatedly to open the BIOS Setup Utility.

3.) Press the right or left arrow key to select the System Configuration menu.

4.) Press the up or down arrow key to select Action Keys Mode.

5.) Press the Enter key to display the Enabled / Disabled options.

BIOS setup window with the System Configuration option and Action Keys Mode selected

6.) Press the up or down arrow key to select one of the options.

  • Enabled: Does not require pressing fn to use the actions printed on the function keys. For example, pressing f8 lowers the sound as printed on the key. Alternately, pressing both the fn + f8 minimizes and maximizes a web browser.
  • Disabled: Requires pressing fn to use the actions printed on the function keys. For example, pressing f1 opens a help window. Alternately, pressing both the fn + f1 keys puts the computer to sleep as printed on the key.

8.) Press the f10 key to save the selection and restart the computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks, but this does not help me. In your soulution all FN/F Keys will be switched, but i only want the F5 Key (that has no special function) for normal use and the ohter keys like default in FN use.

I'm afraid, disabling just the F5 is not an option.

Thanks!

Maybe it is possibel in a future BIOS update to get this function work.

The F5 Key has no other FN function, so it is possible to set FN+F5 and F5 to the same function.
