Hp laptop 15-n098sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to roll back a bios or downgrade due to intel engine management interface not loading error statue power failure code 10. Please do not tell me to try other solutions and change the driver as I have done all this. I also have confirmation from Intel it is a Bios issue they know about.

With this Bios I have tested the problem on 3 new hard drives installing clean windows 10 version 1709 1703 1607, all with 9.5 upto 11.8 version of emui all will not load.

On one of the laptops I have HP 15n098sa it passes all the HP diagnostic extensive tests and passes. The problem seems to be the Bios version 71 rev A sp79456.exe .

I have downloaded and tried F.70 F.69 F.68 and all say this is not compatible with your system. Ok

So I then copy to a USB and boot from USB it states “ hp bios signature file error not found”  and will not allow me to use any of the shown bios files.

So next step run the programs again and copy them to the HP UEFI diagnostics partition, again same problem.

Please tell me how to roll back the Bios as I cannot use it as it will not hibernate and cold reboots all the time.

This issue is due to the fact that there seems to be code in the HP flash utility that will not allow it to be downgraded.

Can someone pleae help?

You said that.  That is an interesting statement considering that you are asking for help.

Just how can we help you without making suggestions and asking you to try things?

Please enlighten me.

Had you considered uninstalling the Intel IMEI utility?  That happens to be the utility that is smack in the crossshairs of the Spectre and Meltdown discussion that is in the news. You could also disable the Intel MEI utility as a workaround for the issue.  https://www.google.nl/search?ei=1iRzWqCxM4zIwQLWyImADQ&q=how+to+disable+Intel+MEI+&oq=how+to+disable...

You should be able to boot to the HP PC UEFI Hardware Diagnostics utility and use Firmware Management to roll back to the previous BIOS.

Thank you for your reply; I was not trying to be rude when saying please do not try other solutions regarding the Intel Engine management interface code 10 problem.

I have tried to disable and also remove the device, but still have the problem of not being able to wake the laptops from hibernation.

As a side note they are used for writing by mature students and are transported around the property.

I have checked the laptops and this chipset according to the intel software and do not have  the Meltdown Spectre problem.

I do have the problem on 2 laptops same model both with Bios version 71 with the 2 other laptops of the same model number  F4T62EA#ABU they run fine using Bios 68, with all operating systems Win 7 Win 8 but not will not run Windows 10 1703 upwards. So I am wanting to roll back the 71’s to Bios 68’s. So I can get the 2 running Bios 71 to come out of hibernation when closing the lid.

Hence the question and wanting to roll back the 71’s to version 70, 69, 68, or earlier.

Regards

Nick

I did not take it as rude, I just found it curious. 🙂

Have you tried using a BIOS usb recovery flash drive created with the BIOS  F.69 softpaq to rollback the BIOS?

Here is a link to the BIOS softpaq.

I do not mean by putting BIOS files on a USB flash drive and booting to it.

I mean creating a USB BIOS recovery flash drive.

When you double click the BIOS softpaq there are three  options provided.

One of them is to create the USB BIOS recovery flash drive.

Boot to it and try the rollback options.

Thanks for the link, i did have it but when you create a recovery USB the following happens on the Bios 71 machines.

I made the recovery flash drive using the the expanaded software provided, ie let the sp run extract all and when the HP utility launched picked the middle option create drive. and followed instructions.

On the laptops needing a rollback.

In Bios 71 System configuration Boot options:

I have Enabled legacy support

Secure boot is disabled

USB 3.0 configuration pre-os  2 options auto and enabled tried both options and saved configuration.

On reboot I press f9 and boot from USB stick, have tried 2 USB sticks both have this does error.

No bootable device – insert boot disk and press any key. This happens in all 3 USB’s on the laptop.

Lets find out if the utility did create a bootable usb flash drive.

After creating a USB recovery drive with the utility, perform the following steps to ensure the utility worked and did create a bootable USB flash drive. You will need a PC with a working Windows installation for this.

1) plug the USB recovery flash drive that the utility created into an available USB port

2)  Open a command line window

3) type in the command Diskpart and press the enter key.

4) type in List volume and press the enter key.  Look for the USB flash drive "HP_Tools" in the list.

If you see the word "Boot" to it's extreme right then it is bootable

Have you tried BIOS softpaqs for earlier versions?

I wil try the F.69 version to see how if it produces a bootable version with my HP Spectre 13 product loan.

I will post my result. Please be patient. I am at 30000 feet altitude on a airliner at the moment.

I tried two versions and had the same negative result that you did. Neither BIOS softpaq produced a bootable flash drive.

I have tried bios 67 68 69 70 and 71 none produce a bootable USB .

I have installed again the Hp diagnostics 6.5. 0.0 sp82165.exe  gone to Bios management tried Bios rollback and Bios update , and get the following result Version of Bios after rollback F.69

When you press rollback now  you get System Bios rollback failed  " unable to  open Bios signature"

I have moved the Bios signature to the same folder but still have the same error.

I have also tried Bios update and have the same error.

Are you sure that you are choosing the BIOS version that matches your notebook?

Does it match the system board ID?
