Does anyone know where to dowload the HP System Information Tool? I uninstalled it and have no way of retrieving it now. It is a  nifty litle tool to find out serial number, etc without having to manually look for it. Needless to say I have already checked Fn + Esc keys and it does not bring up the information tool.  i do not believ the tool is model specific so any would be helpful. Thank you!

Normally we use HP Support Assistant (HPSA) but it is only on HP machines. If you wish to use other software, please try

    https://www.lifewire.com/free-system-information-tools-2625772

for HP tools, please use the following link to download

Thanks. But this not what I was looking for. This still doesn't makes Fn+Esc key present system information. And it was different than windows built in system information. This is the tool that I am talking about: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01509566

Unfortunately there is no download link there. And I have an HP laptop.

The link is for Vista and your machine runs Windows 10 now.

Thank you for mentioning that. Do you have  a link that works with Windows 8.1? I found out a few command line syntaxes to get serial number, but Fn+Esc presented it in a nice screen overlay.

Try the Microsoft Store...

Aragornofgondor, I think this utility is model-specific, so for your HP, the link will probably be different unless you have the exact same HP as me.  Furthermore, you probably won't find software specifically called HP System Information Tool in the downloads section for your model.  Instead, look for "HP Hotkey Support".

For my (company-issued) HP 6470b, I first went here:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-ProBook-6470b-notebook-pc/5212922

Then I clicked on the + next to Driver - Keyboard, Mouse, and Input Devices.

Then I downloaded and installed HP Hotkey Support.  For me, the file was called sp71790.exe.

Again, on your HP, unless you also have an HP 6470b, the support webpage URL and download sp # will probably be different, but will probably still be called HP Hotkey Support.

Once I installed Hotkey Support, I was able to hit Fn-Esc and see the System Information popup as you described.  The popup took about 6 or 7 seconds to appear.  Mine reported:

Product name:  HP ProBook 6470b

Total memory:  8.00 GB (7.94 GB System + 64 MB Video)

Processor name:  Intel (R) Core (TM) i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50 GHz

System BIOS:  F.74 - 04/15/2019

Keyboard revision:  KBC Version 42.38

Serial number:  CNU237BF77

There is an Advanced button.  When you click on that, you summon Microsoft's System Info.  You can also summon this by clicking Start - Run - msinfo32 - hit Enter, if you installed Classic Shell 4.3.1 and put Run back on the Start Menu.  Otherwise, you can click Start - Search box - search for msinfo32.

Other than HP Hotkey Support activating Fn-Esc and probably a few other hotkeys, I didn't see any additional or changed entry in the programs list, in Control Panel, or in Device Manager.
