Microsoft Windows 11

My USB ports are not working I've tried going into device management and did everything to try and get them to work. Nothing did. I went to hp support. I saw that I had 2 updates one was about the hp system bios. I clicked it. It prompted me to install and download which I did. Now it is saying there is an issue with the TPM. I need to press 'Y' to reset whole tpm or 'N' to boot current TPM data in order to proceed. Which option should I choose so I can proceed to completing this download update

Hi @Jaykie,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're prompted to reset the TPM (Trusted Platform Module), it usually means that there has been a change to the system that requires re-verification of the system's integrity. In this case, since you're updating the BIOS, it's a significant change to the system configuration.

Here's what you should consider.

  • Reset TPM ('Y'): This option will reset the TPM, which might resolve the issue you're facing. However, resetting the TPM can have consequences if you're using it for encryption or other security features. Any keys or data stored in the TPM may be lost, and you may need to re-enable and reconfigure security features that rely on it.
  • Boot Current TPM Data ('N'): This option allows you to retain the current TPM data. If you choose this option, the system will continue to use the current TPM data without resetting it. However, this might cause compatibility issues or prevent the BIOS update from completing successfully.

Considering the situation, it's generally safer to proceed with resetting the TPM ('Y'). However, before you do that, ensure you have backups of any important data or keys that might be stored in the TPM.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
