I tried everything hp cloud recovery, reinstalling windows , uninstalling the driver and then letting the Windows install the driver itself. i have no shutter lock and  no lock button to lock the camera. Camera light would switch on or a second and then windows cannot find the camera error would appear.

Hp pc hardware diagnostics show the camera is connected and working.

Hi  @Lenin2001

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I can understand your concern that you've gone through extensive steps, including HP Cloud Recovery, a clean Windows installation, and driver reinstallation. Since the camera is detected and passes the HP Hardware Diagnostics test, that gives us a useful starting point.

To better understand the situation, could you kindly confirm the below details :

  • Is the issue present in all applications (Camera app, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Discord, etc.)?
  • Have you tested the camera in the Windows Camera app specifically, and if so, what exact error message is displayed?

In the meantime, kindly try the below  steps and confirm :

  1. Check Camera Privacy Settings
    • Go to Settings -Privacy & Security -Camera.
    • Ensure Camera access, Let apps access your camera, and Let desktop apps access your camera are all turned ON.
  2. Check Device Manager
    • Open Device Manager.
    • Expand Cameras and Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
    • Right-click the camera device and select Uninstall device.
    • Restart the notebook and allow Windows to rediscover the hardware.
  3. Update BIOS and Windows
    • Open HP Support Assistant and check for any BIOS, chipset, or firmware updates.
    • Install all available Windows Optional Updates related to hardware.
  4. Test in Safe Mode
    • Start Windows in Safe Mode with Networking.
    • Verify whether the camera behaves the same way. This helps determine if another application or service is interfering with camera detection.

You can also find the following HP document helpful:

HP PCs - Troubleshooting the webcam (Windows 11 and Windows 10): Click here .

Based on your description, the camera LED turning on briefly and then Windows reporting that no camera is found suggests that the camera initially establishes a connection but then loses communication with the operating system.

Diagnostic reports that the camera is connected and functioning, the physical camera module itself may still be operational.

The issue could be related to the camera driver initialization process, firmware, BIOS interaction.

I hope this helps.
