HP Laptop 15-db0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This is my second brand new laptop (after returning the first), both identical, that was ordered directly through HP.com with the same issue.  The touchpad is almost impossible to use, especially when online.  It is super sensitive, jumps all over the page, clicks on links by itself, etc.  I tried slowing down the features in the touchpad settings area, but to no avail.  I also switched to the Windows touchpad software through the Device Manager which helped with the issue, but still very difficult to work with online.  Since I have the exact same issue with my second pc from HP (after returning the first) I am wondering who else has the problem and how it might be solved?  HP is no help.  They want me to pay $60 to have someone go into the software with no guarantee of a fix.  The pc is brand new and I will not pay for someone to "try" to fix their faulty product.  Please help!

@WoofyDog Welcome to HP Community!

Attempt using an alternate/external mouse.

(If that works when the touchpad is disabled on software, it would mean that it's a touchpad failure,

However, if the external mouse doesn't work either, it could be a software/driver issue).

Uninstall and reinstall the drivers for your mouse:

Go to the Device Manager and select your mouse. Uninstall it and then restart your computer. During restart, your mouse driver will automatically be reinstalled.

  • 1.   Click on Start and type ‘Device Manager’.
  • 2.   Click Device Manager.
  • 3.   Click + sign next to Mouse (Check if that's synaptics or elan touchpad driver)
  • 4.   Right-click on mouse entry and choose "uninstall".
  • 5.   Restart your computer.

Keep me posted, as I (Or a trusted colleague) shall follow-up on this case to ensure the concern has been addressed,

And your device is up and running again, only in case you don't get back to us, first!

That said, If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us, and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Thank you for the suggestions. I do not have an external mouse to try, and not going to buy one at this point. I did follow your steps to uninstall and reinstall the touchpad software but no change. It’s the 2nd identical laptop in 30 days with identical problem. No one at HP can figure it out.

@WoofyDog You don't have to buy one, just borrow one from a friend or from the local tech store and check if it works, just to confirm the issue.

If nothing works or you aren't comfortable doing that, I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

here's how private messages work: Click here for details.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
