My new laptop came with McAfee pre-installed and I accidentally removed it.  Is there any way to get it back?

Hi @PATLANG,

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums! A very good day to you.:) Hope you are doing great:) I reviewed the post about deleting McAfee from your computer.  I’ll be delighted to assist you with this. 🙂

You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂 It is paramount to address this issue.

For better clarity and to assist you better I will need the operating system of the computer.

Yes, it is possible to reinstall the McAfee security software on your computer If it is available. To do this you will need to go recovery manager and install it from there. Link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04762483 Please follow the steps and screenshots provided in this link.

If it is not available, then please backup your data and perform a system recovery to factory settings to get back McAfee.

However, you will need to contact McAfee support to renew your McAfee subscription.

Link for system recovery: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-15-j100-Select-Edition-Notebook-PC-series/6521373/model/... and follow the option" Recovery when Windows 10 does not start correctly "

Another workaround would be to use Microsoft defender to protect the PC from this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17187/windows-10-protect-your-pc. it does the same thing as McAfee and is integrated with Windows 10.

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.  🙂  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂

Thank you for your suggested solutions.  I tried the first one - Recovery Manager but was told it does not support this feature after a Windows upgrade.  Ah well.

I do not want to do the recovery to factory settings, so I will continue to use Windows Defender, since you said it does the same job.

I currently have Norton on 3 other computers, so eventually I will remove it from one of them and install it here.

Thank you very much for your help!

I thank you greatly for accepting this as a solution. It has been an absolute privilege to have worked with you and shared this platform with you. 🙂 You have been amazing to work with. I hope the unit works great and stays healthy for a long time.

I request you to do just that. Use Norton for 3 months and then Windows defender.
