Microsoft Windows 11

My trackpad is not working in windows but working in bios. The trackpad drivers are missing from device manager and trackpad option is also not showing in setting. I assume it is something related to drivers. Please provide a solution and if it is drivers ,then please tell me how to install it .

Hi @Avi003

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a missing trackpad driver issue in Windows, especially since the trackpad works in BIOS but not in Windows. This suggests that the hardware itself is fine, but the drivers or the software are not installed or are malfunctioning in Windows.

Here's how to troubleshoot and fix the issue:

Steps to Fix Missing Trackpad Drivers:

1. Check for Missing Drivers in Device Manager

Sometimes, the trackpad drivers might be missing or disabled. Let’s start by checking the Device Manager:

Open Device Manager:

  • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.

Look for the Trackpad:

  • Under Mice and other pointing devices, look for your trackpad (it might show as a HID-compliant mouse or Synaptics/ELAN trackpad).
  • If you see a yellow triangle or question mark next to it, that means there’s an issue with the driver.

Reinstall or Update Driver:

  • Right-click on the Trackpad (or the HID-compliant mouse) and choose Update driver.
  • Select Search automatically for updated driver software to see if Windows can find and install the correct driver.
  • If this doesn’t work, you can try uninstalling the device and then restarting your laptop. Windows should attempt to reinstall the driver upon reboot.

2. Install Trackpad Driver Manually

If the automatic search doesn’t work, you can manually install the correct drivers from your laptop manufacturer’s website.

Steps:

  1. Identify Your Laptop Model:
    • Make sure you know your exact laptop model (e.g., HP Pavilion x360, Dell Inspiron, etc.). You can find this on the bottom of your laptop or through the System Information in Settings.
  2. Go to the hp Website:
    • Visit the official HP support website
    • Go to their Support page and search for your laptop model.
    • Under Drivers & Downloads, look for Input Devices or Touchpad drivers (often listed as Synaptics, ELAN, or Windows Precision drivers).
  3. Download and Install the Driver:
    • Download the correct driver for your laptop and operating system (make sure it’s for Windows 10/11).
    • Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
    • After installation, restart your laptop to see if the trackpad works.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
