Hi @CristovaoMe,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If the Windows key on your HP laptop isn't working, here are several steps you can take to diagnose and fix the issue:

Step 1: Check for Physical Issues

  • Press the Windows key firmly a few times to ensure it’s not stuck.
  • Try using an external keyboard to see if the Windows key works there.

Step 2: Check Keyboard Settings

Sometimes the Windows key is disabled via software:

  1. Check for Game Mode:
    • Press Fn + F12 (or the key with a game controller icon) to toggle Game Mode off.
    • Game Mode can disable the Windows key on some HP laptops.
  2. Check Windows Registry:
    • Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
    • Navigate to:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout
    • Look for a value named Scancode Map. If it exists, it might be disabling the Windows key.
    • If you're unsure, I can guide you through safely editing it.

Step 3: Use HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Turn off your laptop.
  2. Press Esc repeatedly while turning it on.
  3. Press F2 to enter diagnostics.
  4. Run the Keyboard Test to check if the Windows key is detected.

Step 4: Update or Reinstall Keyboard Driver

  1. Press Windows + X → Device Manager.
  2. Expand Keyboards.
  3. Right-click your keyboard → Uninstall device.
  4. Restart your laptop. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
