Hi @ks203

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for flagging that—It appears that your HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 is facing an issue where Word documents are opening in Microsoft 365 but can't be edited. This usually happens when Microsoft 365 is installed in view-only mode, or your Office apps aren’t properly activated.

Let’s walk through a few steps to get editing access back:

Steps to Resolve the Issue:

Check Office License:

  • Ensure that your Microsoft Office 365 is properly licensed and activated. Unlicensed versions often restrict editing capabilities.

Verify Microsoft Office Subscription:

  • Make sure your Microsoft Office subscription is active. If your subscription has expired, you will not be able to edit documents.

Repair Microsoft Office Installation:

  • Open Control Panel.
  • Navigate to Programs and Features.
  • Find Microsoft Office in the list and select it.
  • Choose the 'Change' option and select 'Repair'.

Sign In to Microsoft Account:

  • Sign in to Office with your Microsoft account that has the subscription.
  • Make sure the account you’re signed into has the appropriate permissions for editing documents.

Reinstall Microsoft Office:

  • If the issue persists, you may need to reinstall Microsoft Office. Be sure to download the latest version from the official Microsoft Office website.

Update Microsoft Office:

  • Ensure that you are using the latest version of Microsoft Office.
  • Go to any Office application and navigate to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.

Additional Resources:

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the issue of editing Word documents on your HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC.
