HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 (4V9Y1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I recently got HP 15S-FQ5019NE *SILVER*

CORE I5-*1235U* *8GB + 8GB* DDR4 NVME *512GB* INTEL IRIS XE 15.6" HD

I've been using it and I've realized that Im using Intel (R) UHD instead of Intel Iris Xe ,which seems to be limiting my GPU's performance.Ive tried to enable it through different methods but its all confusing and not clear.

Keep in mind Im using single channel ram (16GB).

What can I do? Can I enable Intel Iris Xe or do I need to enable dual channel through buying another 16gbram stick?

Hi @M47EYES,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like there might be a few reasons why your laptop is defaulting to the Intel UHD graphics instead of the Intel Iris Xe. Here are some steps you can take to try and enable the Intel Iris Xe graphics on your HP 15S.

Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest graphics drivers installed for your Intel Iris Xe. You can download the latest drivers from the official Intel website or use the driver update utility provided by HP.

BIOS/UEFI Settings: Check your laptop's BIOS or UEFI settings to see if there's an option to prioritize the Intel Iris Xe graphics over the UHD graphics. The steps to access these settings may vary depending on your laptop model, so refer to your laptop's manual for guidance.

Windows Graphics Settings: On Windows, you can also try changing the graphics preferences in the system settings:

  • Right-click on the desktop and select "Graphics Options" or "Graphics Properties."
  • Look for an option to switch between the Intel UHD and Iris Xe graphics.

Power Options: Sometimes, power settings can influence the GPU selection. Make sure your laptop is set to use maximum performance when plugged in. You can adjust this in the power options settings.

Regarding the use of single-channel RAM, upgrading to dual-channel RAM (two sticks of 8GB each, for example) may provide a performance boost, especially for integrated graphics. The Intel Iris Xe graphics can benefit from higher memory bandwidth, and using dual-channel RAM allows for better utilization of the integrated GPU.

Adding another 16GB RAM stick to enable dual-channel memory could potentially improve overall system performance, including graphics performance. However, it's essential to check whether your laptop supports dual-channel memory and if there are specific requirements for memory configurations.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
