I cant set a default downloader./dont understand how

So, I used to have a lenovo, and have recently upgraded to a new hp laptop. I was able to download everything, but now my downloads are just a white page and when it is clicked on it says "you dont have a app set to download stuff" pretty much, this is only my 2nd computer, so please help!

As it says "you dont have a app set to download stuff" do you remember which app and which Windows did you use on your Lenovo machine ?

Some download apps are free but many are paid apps BUT you can always download from Web rowsers. Which web browser do you use. It will download when you click to the link INSIDE that browser.

Honestly, i used drop box (the free version which i have on here) and google chrome. I'm still confused a little, but i tried doing what i do currently on my old laptop and it works on there, just not here. any ideas on the situation?
