Hi @Keedah,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are unable to type your PIN on your HP 17 Laptop PC, you can try the following troubleshooting steps.

Check the Keyboard: Ensure the keyboard is working properly by typing in another text field (e.g., in the search bar on the login screen). If the keyboard is not responding at all, try using an external USB keyboard.

Use the On-Screen Keyboard:

  • Click on the Ease of Access icon (a person icon) on the login screen.
  • Select On-Screen Keyboard.
  • Use the on-screen keyboard to type your PIN.

Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary issues with the keyboard.

Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the keyboard for any visible damage or debris that might be causing the keys to stick or not respond.

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • Restart your laptop and repeatedly press the F8 key (or Shift + F8) before the Windows logo appears.
  • Select Safe Mode.
  • Check if you can type your PIN in Safe Mode.

Update Keyboard Drivers:

  • Boot into Windows (if possible) or use Safe Mode.
  • Open Device Manager by pressing Win + X and selecting Device Manager.
  • Expand the Keyboards section.
  • Right-click on your keyboard device and select Update driver.
  • Follow the prompts to update the driver.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Open Settings by pressing Win + I.
  • Go to Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Check for updates and install any available updates.

Reset Your PIN:

  • On the login screen, click on I forgot my PIN.
  • Follow the prompts to reset your PIN.

If none of these steps work, there might be a hardware issue with your keyboard.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
