I have been extremely irritated that my mouse cursor keeps jumping to the top right of the screen. I have read many articles about this, but nothing works to stop it. I decided to delete the mouse and the touchpad (one by one) and reboot the laptop. The mouse reloaded. but the touch pad did not. How do I recover it? It does not show in the devices list any longer.
.
And while we are about it, has anything been discovered as to how to stop the cursor jumping?

Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand that you are getting touchpad issues, I am glad to assist you.
Check the Mouse options under control panel:
Start → Control Panel → Mouse → Buttons tab.
Check the box labeled "Use MS Office compatible scroll only."
Also, check the box below labeled "Scroll in active window only."
If the issue persists, attempt the below steps:
Attempt using an alternate/external mouse.
(If that works when the touchpad is disabled on device manager, it would mean that it's a touchpad failure,
However, if the external mouse doesn't work either, it could be a software/driver issue).
Uninstall and reinstall the drivers for your mouse:
Go to the Device Manager and select your mouse. Uninstall it and then restart your computer. During restart, your mouse driver will automatically be reinstalled.
1. Click on Start and type ‘Device Manager’.
2. Click Device Manager.
3. Click + sign next to Mouse.
4. Right-click on mouse entry and choose "uninstall".
5. Restart your computer.
Keep me posted.

Hi @Sandytechy20, thank you very much. the first process didn't work as those boxes didn't exist in my mouse buttons page, but the second option did. So this is very pleasing, thank you.
I wonder though whether any solution has been found yet for the mouse rushing to the top right corner of the screen the whole time?? it has done it once since I have been writing this message to you. You think you are clicking on something only to find you have just dropped or deleted the page, as the mouse flies up to the top right corner and interferes with the buttons on the top right of the screen.
Should I start a whole new query about this????

Update the Bios, chipset, and drivers using HP Support Assistant to fix this issue.
Download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: Click here
Cheers.

Hi @Sandytechy20,
Thank you so much for your suggestions. I followed up, downloaded all the necessary support assistant downloads, updated the Bios, did all the tests, bought a new mouse to make sure everything is in good order, and still it persists in jumping to the right. it is interesting, because it starts slowly. if one is just starting something, like an email or a document or such like, it will be absolutely fine, but as time progresses, it starts jumping, until it gets to a point where it jumps repeatedly several times in a row which is really very annoying. So over an hour it can jump about 15-20 times. Maybe more.
In your note above, it mentions chipset. I haven't seen that specifically detailed in any of the HP downloads, so I assume it is being dealt with in the checks etc, unless it has a separate download which I have not yet found.
Otherwise its a really good laptop. Any thoughts would be really helpful.
Thankyou.
Jambo.
