We would like to help, of course.  This is not one of those things for which we can offer much in the way of advice.  Not having saved your work is unfortunate - there is not any way for us to determine for sure where / how / if any copy of the data is available.

The document MIGHT still saved in a temporary location OR the document could be gone.

Where you look depends on the type of document.

For example,

Office Word will usually save temporary copies of documents in default location (or where ever you have designated) in File > Options > Save

For example, the AutoRecover location might be set to

C:\Users\AccountName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\

Replace "AccountName" with the name of your own account

For future reference, Word can be set to automatically create a backup copy of the document.

File > Options > Advanced > scroll down to "Save"

Check box "Always create backup copy"

Some software may not automatically save a copy of the document content.

For example, it may be necessary for you to remember to click the Save icon / button while you are editing the document to be sure the document is saved to disk.

If you ever had a copy of the document, try using search in your account for the document type (for example, .docx or .txt).

You can also check the Recycle Bin (Trash bin), though in most cases this would indicate that you did (at some point) Save a copy of the file.

It is possible, if you have File History switched ON that a copy of the file is saved in your File History Backups.

Settings > Update & Security > Backup > More Options

Scroll down...

Restore files from a current backup

Good Luck.
