Hi @Pratik61,

Now that you’ve confirmed the touchpad only works inside HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, but does not work in BIOS Setup, Windows, or Linux, here’s what that means:

The hardware itself is functional (since UEFI can interact with it).

But the OS and BIOS environment cannot properly initialize or communicate with it.

This narrows the problem to a firmware/driver/firmware-OS handoff issue, not pure hardware failure.

Next Steps to Try

Check BIOS Settings Again

Restart the laptop → press F10 to enter BIOS.

Look under Advanced > Built-in Device Options (or similar).

Ensure the internal pointing device/touchpad is enabled.

Save changes and restart.

Update BIOS & Firmware

Since the touchpad works only in UEFI Diagnostics, your BIOS may not be properly initializing the I²C controller.

Go to the HP Support Drivers page, enter your laptop model (HP 15s-eq2212au), and download and install the latest BIOS update.

Install AMD Chipset + I²C Drivers

On the same HP Drivers page, download:

AMD Chipset Drivers (very important, they enable I²C bus communication).

Touchpad Driver (Synaptics/Elan, whichever is listed).

Uninstall any existing drivers from Device Manager under:

Human Interface Devices

Mice and other pointing devices

Restart and then install the chipset and touchpad drivers.

Windows Services Check

Press Win + R → services.msc

Locate Human Interface Device Service and make sure it’s set to Automatic and is Running.

If Still Not Working

Since it functions in UEFI Diagnostics but not in OS or BIOS, this may indicate a firmware-to-driver compatibility fault.

At this stage, if a BIOS update and chipset drivers don’t solve it, an HP service center visit is recommended. They may need to reflash the touchpad firmware or system board EC (Embedded Controller).

I hope this helps.

Hi @Pratik61,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding touchpad issues on the HP 15s eq2212au!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Verify Touchpad Status in Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager and navigate to Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Ensure the touchpad device is listed. If it's not, it may suggest a hardware issue.

Driver Reinstallation:

  • Even if the drivers are up to date, try uninstalling the current touchpad driver from Device Manager. Right-click the device and select Uninstall. Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers.
  • Visit the HP website to download the latest drivers for your specific laptop model and install them manually.

Touchpad Settings:

  • Check your touchpad settings in Windows. Navigate to Settings > Devices > Touchpad and ensure the touchpad is enabled.

BIOS Update:

  • Ensure your BIOS is up to date. Sometimes hardware recognition issues can be resolved with the latest BIOS version. You can find BIOS updates on the HP Support website.

HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool to run a diagnostic test on your touchpad. You can access this tool by pressing F2 during startup and selecting Component Tests > Mouse Test > Pointer Test & Drag and Drop Test.

Perform a Soft Reset:

  • Restart your device with a soft reset by forcing it to power off completely. This can refresh hardware connections.

Check Physical Connections:

  • If you are comfortable with hardware, you can verify the physical connection of the touchpad cable inside the laptop. Ensure there are no loose connections.

I hope this helps.

Sorry to disturb again . I have recently noticed that my touchpad is working in the hardware component test only in the bios . Only in hardware component test but not in the windows nor any other operating systems like linux

Hi @Pratik61,

Thank you for sharing this important detail, it helps narrow things down a lot.

If your touchpad is working in the HP Hardware Component Test (BIOS environment) but not in Windows or Linux, that means:

The touchpad hardware itself is functional (since BIOS can detect and use it).

The issue is almost certainly related to firmware, drivers, or OS-level configuration, not a hardware fault.

Here are the next steps you can try:

Enable Touchpad in BIOS

Restart your laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.

Look under Advanced or Built-in Device Options.

Ensure the Internal Pointing Device / Touchpad option is set to Enabled.

Save changes and restart.

Clean Install Drivers

In Device Manager, uninstall any entries related to the touchpad (both under Human Interface Devices and Mice and other pointing devices).

Restart your laptop.

Download and install the latest Synaptics/Elan I2C touchpad driver for your model from the HP Drivers Page.

Also install the AMD Chipset Drivers, since missing chipset/I2C controller drivers can prevent Windows from detecting the touchpad.

Windows Services Check

Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.

Make sure Human Interface Device Service is running and set to Automatic.

BIOS Update

Since the touchpad works in diagnostics but not in the OS, an outdated BIOS can cause compatibility issues. Please update to the latest BIOS version for your HP 15s eq2212au from the HP website.

I hope this helps.
