I can no longer select 2-sided printing. To do so, I have to manually reinsert each page.

@Frustrated574, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Envy 4500e printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like the two-sided printing option might have been disabled or isn't available due to a driver or settings issue. Here's a step-by-step guide to try and resolve the issue:

Check Printer Settings:

  • Open the Control Panel on your computer and go to Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your HP ENVY 4500 printer and select Printer Properties.
  • Under the Device Settings tab, make sure that Duplex Printing is enabled. If it’s set to "Off," change it to On.
  • Click Apply and then OK.

Check Printer Driver:

  • Go to Device Manager on your computer (you can search for it in the Start menu).
  • Expand the Printers section, right-click on your printer, and select Update Driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software to check for any updates.
  • If the driver is up to date, you may want to uninstall and reinstall it to ensure that it’s working correctly.

Print Settings in Applications:

  • When you try to print, make sure you have selected the Two-Sided (Duplex) Printing option from within the print dialog of the application you’re using (such as Word, PDF viewer, etc.).
  • You can find the setting in the Printer Preferences under Layout or Finishing.

Restart the Printer and Computer:

  • Turn off the printer, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Restart your computer as well to ensure everything refreshes.

Check Paper Type and Size:

  • Make sure the paper type and size match what you’ve set in your print preferences. Sometimes mismatched settings can disable duplex printing.

Check for Printer Firmware Updates:

  • Visit the HP website and check if there’s any firmware update available for your HP ENVY 4500 that might resolve the duplex printing issue.

If you still have trouble, feel free to let me know, and we can dive deeper into troubleshooting!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
