Laptop details : HP pavillion x360 (i5), windows 10

I keep facing this issue where my laptop does not wake up from sleep mode since past 1 month. I just leave it with the blank screen and after some time it wakes up by pressing some key because unfortunately, my power button is not working always ( it is only working sometimes ). Is there any fix for me where my power button is not the solution ? (also, this problem did not occur when I just did a windows update)

@ABT001, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Got it — you're facing two main issues here:

  1. Laptop not waking properly from sleep (randomly wakes if you press some key)
  2. Power button is unreliable (sometimes works, sometimes doesn't)

Since you mentioned that the problem didn't start right after a Windows Update, it sounds more hardware-related (like power button issues) plus some possible sleep settings messed up over time. Here’s how we can work around the power button and fix the sleep wake-up issue without needing the power button:

Step 1: Allow Keyboard and/or Touchpad to Wake the Laptop

You can set your keyboard or touchpad to reliably wake the laptop:

  1. Press Windows + X, then click Device Manager.
  2. Expand Keyboards → Right-click your keyboard device → Properties.
  3. Go to the Power Management tab.
  4. Check the box that says "Allow this device to wake the computer".
  5. Do the same for Mice and other pointing devices (your touchpad or external mouse).

This way, pressing any key or touching the touchpad will wake it up — no need for the power button.

Step 2: Disable "Fast Startup"

Fast Startup sometimes messes with sleep and wake functionality.

  1. Open Control PanelHardware and SoundPower Options.
  2. Click Choose what the power buttons do.
  3. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  4. Uncheck the box for Turn on fast startup.
  5. Save and reboot.

This can fix "not waking from sleep" issues.

Step 3: Update Intel Management Engine Interface (IMEI) Driver

This driver controls sleep, hibernation, and waking functions.

  1. In Device Manager, expand System Devices → find Intel Management Engine Interface.
  2. Right-click → Update DriverSearch automatically.

If that doesn’t work well:

  • Download the correct IMEI driver from the HP website for your Pavilion x360 model.

A corrupted or outdated IMEI can cause sleep/wake glitches.

Step 4: Check Sleep Settings (Advanced Power Settings)

  1. Control Panel → Power Options → next to your selected plan → Change plan settings.
  2. Click Change advanced power settings.
  3. Expand Sleep:
    • Set Allow hybrid sleepOff.
    • Set Allow wake timersEnable.

Sometimes hybrid sleep causes confusion with waking.

Bonus Tip: Use Lid Open as Wake

If your power button is dying and you want another way:

  1. Go to Control PanelPower OptionsChoose what closing the lid does.
  2. Set "When I close the lid" to Sleep and "When I open the lid" to Do nothing.

Now when you open the lid, it should automatically attempt to wake without needing the power button.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
