I have HP Pavilion 14-aI062nr and I am having issues with the touchpad. In the device manager the issue is I2C HID error code 10. I have looked multiple videos, the helps in this community and none of them have worked so far.
Few times, when I disable and enable it- the touchpad works. But most of the time it doesn't. Every time I do component test, it passes. I have looked for updated drivers and still nothing worked. The window version I have here is 24H2, and there's no driver for it. What do I do?

Hi @RIK101
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this persistent touchpad issue—it must be incredibly frustrating, especially when you’ve tried so many steps and nothing seems to stick.
Let’s walk through a few focused solutions that may help restore consistent functionality to your touchpad.
Step-by-Step Fixes for I2C HID Error Code 10
1. Disable and Re-enable the I2C HID Device
This may offer temporary relief, but let’s do it with a twist:
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices.
- Right-click I2C HID Device → Select Disable device.
- Wait 10 seconds, then Enable it again.
- Restart your laptop.
2. Change Power Management Settings
- In Device Manager, right-click I2C HID Device → Properties.
- Go to the Power Management tab.
- Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.
- Click OK and restart.
3. Uninstall and Reinstall the Driver
- In Device Manager, right-click I2C HID Device → Uninstall device.
- Check “Delete the driver software for this device”.
- Restart your laptop. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.
4. Install Intel Serial IO Driver
This chipset driver is essential for I2C devices to function properly.
- Visit the official HP driver page for your model:
HP Pavilion 14-al062nr Drivers and Downloads - Download and install the Intel Serial IO Driver under the Chipset section.
- Restart your laptop.
5. Enable Touchpad in BIOS
- Restart your laptop and press F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.
- Navigate to Advanced Settings → Internal Pointing Device.
- Make sure it’s Enabled.
- Save and exit.
6. Update BIOS
Sometimes BIOS updates resolve hardware compatibility issues:
- On the same HP support page, check for the latest BIOS update.
- Follow the instructions carefully to install it.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, please let me know what behavior you’re seeing after each attempt. I’ll stay with you until we find a solution that works.

Hello,
Thank you for the steps. I actually entered a wrong model number. Here is the actual one:HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dy0163TU (4X739PA).
However, I tried all the steps.
Step 1: Disabling, waiting and enabling didn't work.
Step 2: there's no power management option shown in my laptop.
Step 3:
I did that. After restarting it shows same code error in the section.
Step 4:
When I go through HP website, it identifies my model. But it fails to give me the OS system I am using. I am using windows 11 24h2 version. There's only option of 22H2 version.
STEP 5:
Couldn't find Internal point setting. Or even component test at this point.
Step 6:
There was an update in the BIOS. Updated it. But still not working.

Thanks for replying @RIK101.
Thanks for sharing the full context, and I can see you’ve already put in a lot of effort trying to resolve the I2C HID error code 10 on your HP Pavilion 14-al062nr.
Since you're running Windows 11 version 24H2 and HP’s support site doesn’t yet list drivers for that build, here’s how to move forward effectively without risking system stability.
Updated Steps to Resolve I2C HID Error Code 10 (Touchpad Not Working)
1. Confirm BIOS and Chipset Are Fully Updated
- Visit the HP Pavilion 14-al062nr Drivers Page.
- Download and install:
- The latest BIOS update
- Intel Serial IO Driver (under Chipset section)
- Restart your laptop after each install.
These updates help the system properly communicate with I2C-based devices like your touchpad.
2. Run HP Component Test Again
Even if it passes, run it once more after BIOS and driver updates:
- Press Esc during startup → choose F2 for System Diagnostics.
- Run the Touchpad Test under Component Tests.
- Note any error codes or behavior changes.
3. Use Microsoft’s Generic HID Driver
If HP’s driver doesn’t install correctly on 24H2:
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click I2C HID Device → Update Driver.
- Choose Browse my computer > Let me pick from a list.
- Select HID-compliant device or Microsoft HID driver.
- Install and restart.
4. Reset BIOS Settings
- Restart and press F10 to enter BIOS.
- Go to Advanced > Internal Pointing Device → ensure it’s Enabled.
- Then go to Exit > Load Setup Defaults.
- Save and exit.
5. Check for Windows Optional Updates
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates.
- Look under Driver Updates for any HID or touchpad-related entries.
- Install and restart.
You're doing everything right, and we’ll get this sorted.
