Hi @Amirthayogam,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
A "Disk Read Verify Test" failure in an HP laptop usually indicates a potential issue with your storage drive (HDD or SSD). This can also cause your laptop to run slowly. Here’s what you can do to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.
Backup Your Data Immediately
Before proceeding with any troubleshooting, back up all your important files to an external drive or cloud storage. A failing disk can completely fail without warning.
Check Storage Drive Health
Run Windows Built-In Tools:
- Open File Explorer, right-click on your system drive (usually C:), and select Properties.
- Go to the Tools tab and under Error checking, click Check. Follow the prompts to scan for and fix disk errors.
Use HP Diagnostics Tool:
- Turn off your laptop.
- Press the power button, then repeatedly press the Esc key until the startup menu appears.
- Select System Diagnostics > Component Tests > Hard Drive and run detailed tests.
Use Third-Party Tools:
- Tools like CrystalDiskInfo or HDDScan can provide detailed health reports for your disk.
Optimize Your Laptop Performance
Disable Startup Programs:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Go to the Startup tab and disable unnecessary programs.
Free Up Disk Space:
- Delete temporary files (Win + R > Type temp, %temp%, and prefetch one by one).
- Uninstall unused applications.
Update Drivers:
- Open Device Manager, expand Disk Drives, and update the driver for your storage device.
- Update all drivers using HP Support Assistant or a reliable driver updater.
Check for Malware:
- Run a full scan using Windows Security or any trusted antivirus software.
Replace the Drive If Necessary
If the drive health test indicates critical errors or the problem persists:
- Replace the drive with a new SSD (recommended for better speed and performance).
- Install Windows 11 on the new drive using a bootable USB drive.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
