Hi,

Yes, you can. YOu can either install as a dual boot system or install Linux and remove Windows.

If you create a USB drive with a bootable version of Linux on it you can actually boot into a live version of Linux without installing it and then you can decide if to install it or not. During installation, it will give you the option to keep or remove Windows.
