HP ENVY x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-ew0000 (549V8AV)

My HP Envy x360 15" has Windows 11 Home 24H2, and I think my Intel Iris Xe could benefit from subject Iris XE driver (Intel Driver & Support Assistant (IDSA) keeps bugging me about updating my Iris Xe graphics driver).

Is there a way to--and can I--install ONLY the Iris Xe part of the driver update?  I don't use Arc, and it seems to me that long ago, it was difficult to get only the Iris Xe driver portion of the update once it was downloaded.  Does anyone have experience with that particular download, and how to install it?

The specific update I have "hidden" in my IDSA is:  Version: 32.0.101.6790, Release date: May 2, 2025, Size: 873.13 MB

While I'm writing about IDSA, let me just add that sometimes I get a little confused when I'm advised to download and install an update from IDSA.  How can HP users determine whether an Intel update is "the way to go," rather than waiting to see if there is an HP update coming out??  It's always a bit confusing for me when a computer manufacturer (ie, HP) includes components made by a different computer manufacturer (ie, Intel).  Thanks in advance.

Hi @EnmaAi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for contacting HP Support. We understand you're receiving notifications from the Intel Driver & Support Assistant (IDSA) about updating your Intel Iris Xe Graphics driver on HP ENVY x360 15" (549V8AV) and would like clarification on whether to proceed with this update, particularly regarding driver version 32.0.101.6790, and whether it is safe to install just the Iris Xe portion.

We appreciate your attention to keeping your system up to date, and we're happy to assist.

Option 1: Wait for the HP-Validated Driver

Option 2: Proceed with IDSA Update (With Caution)

  • If you choose to install the Intel driver directly:
    • Create a system restore point first.
    • Install using the IDSA prompt.
    • Monitor for any unexpected behavior post-installation.
    • If problems occur, you can revert using Device Manager or System Restore.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

@VikramTheGreat, thanks for your reply.  With regard to the HP-Validated Driver, I am disappointed in HP's support of my HP Envy x360 (which I purchased 7/22/2022, less than three years ago).  HP only shows support for Operating Systems up through Windows 11 version 22H2 (64-bit).  That is disappointing to me because my laptop is already updated to Windows 11 Home 24H2, Build 26100.4061, which I installed on 12/4/2024--TWO VERSIONS AGO.  So, it would appear (to me, anyway) that HP is WAY BEHIND "the power curve" in terms of keeping this laptop updated with a current Iris Xe driver.

I'm no computer whiz, so maybe, MAYBE, the newest Iris Xe driver isn't "the best" for my system; but I can't tell if HP is even "validating" any newer Intel driver for the Iris Xe chip.  In other words, "routinely tests and publishes compatible Intel drivers" just doesn't seem "routine," I guess I'm trying to say.  Not your fault, for sure.  But I think HP really needs to do better about "testing and publishing" in order to keep customer systems current, in my opinion.

I am accepting your Option 2 solution.  I will wait a couple more months to see if HP "validates" a newer Iris Xe driver.  After two months, I will update the Iris Xe driver per Option 2.  If that fails, I'll come back and update; otherwise assume that the update was successful.  Thanks!
