Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Installing Intel Standard NVM Express Controller, 4.4.0.1003 16/05/2019 causes the Laptop to Fail on Restart after driver install.  Stop Code: Inaccessible Boot Device.

The driver was recommended among many others after setting up this laptop by IOBit Drive Booster v7.  On first fail at bootup, with little understanding of what had happened, I restored the laptop through a Recovery USB by Reinstalling Windows 10 v1903 (10.0.18363, build 18363), I went through the same process of installing numerous driver updates, but individually with a restart between each install.  I purposefully left this driver till last and on its install I had the same result - Stop Code: Inaccessible Boot Device.  This time I used the Recovery media to enact a repair and reverted to Restore Point prior to this driver update and the Laptop booted successfully and has continued to operate successfully.

The Laptop has an Intel SSDPEKNW512G8H fitted

So, a driver issue, or a hardware issue?  anyone had a similar experience with this driver and know of an update#d driver?

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I am glad to know that you managed to resolve the issue. To get the answer to this question, it is a driver related issue and reinstalling the clean operating system fixed the driver issue. If you need any help, feel free to reach out to us.

Have a great day!

Hi @Echo_Lake

Having to uninstall an update to a driver is not a fix in my book.  Why does it fail with the latest Intel Driver?

The laptop is now running on Standard NVM Express Controller v10.0.18362.1, 21/06/2006 and fails on the updated driver 4.4.0.1003, 16/05/2019.

Is this a problem with the NVM PCIe subsystem under the latest update to Windows 10 or is the latest intel driver (pre Win10 Autumn Update) faulty?

Does HP have an updated driver?

I shouldn't need to keep ignoring updated drivers if the hardware can't work with them - is it the SSD or the PCIe system?

Thanks

Shirl

Thank you for posting back.

To get the answer to these questions, this looks like software drivers are corrupted by installing the correct software will fix the issue.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,  I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: ( do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating )

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open the HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

And, also run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
