Hi @Papi2556G,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're replacing the hard drive and have reached the point where you need to boot from a USB drive. I know it can be frustrating when the BIOS settings don't behave as expected.

To better assist you, could you please let me know:

  • What is the exact model or product number of your HP notebook?
  • Are you trying to install Windows 11, Windows 10, or another operating system?
  • Is the USB drive created using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool, or was it created using another application such as Rufus?
  • What happens when you press F9 during startup? Does the USB drive appear in the Boot Device Options?

Regarding Secure Boot, on many newer HP notebooks, Secure Boot cannot be disabled, or the option is intentionally hidden, depending on the platform and BIOS design. This is expected behavior on certain models and does not necessarily prevent you from installing Windows. If the USB installation media has been created in UEFI/GPT mode, the notebook should be able to boot from it with Secure Boot enabled.

If you haven't already, please try the following:

  1. Turn the notebook off completely.
  2. Connect the bootable USB drive.
  3. Turn the notebook on and immediately tap the Esc key repeatedly.
  4. Press F9 to open Boot Device Options and check whether the USB drive is listed.
  5. If it is listed, select it and see if the Windows Setup starts.

If the USB drive does not appear in the boot menu, it is often due to the installation media not being created in a UEFI-compatible format rather than a Secure Boot issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
