Hi All,

I am unable to upgrade to Windows 11 because my Intel SST is showing as an incompatible version <https://support.microsoft.com/en-US/servicing/os/windows/2026/01/kb5078895-compatibility-issues-with...>. Windows 11 halts the upgrade process and indicates an incompatible version of Intel SST exists on my laptop.

  • Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) OED Driver Version 10.23.3586.202 with 'IntcOED.sys' at version 10.24.0.3851.
  • Currently running Windows 10 Home 64-bit 22H2

I have tried upgrading Intel Drivers from Intel's website, which shows no new Intel SST Drivers available.  I have also tried seeking upgrades directly from my windows updates in settings, which shows no new drivers. I have tried upgrading the driver directly from the device manager under the specific driver, which shows no new driver updates available. Lastly, I have tried finding HP Driver Updates available from HP's website, which shows no new Intel SST drivers. I have even tried removing and deleting the drivers, which results in Windows re-installing the driver automatically during reboot.

Is there an updated Intel SST Driver that is compatible with HP Win-10 which would permit an Upgrade to Windows 11? Where can I find and install this driver from?

Thanks All!

-TonyK

Thank you for posting that information.

Try the Intel support assistant

and let us know if it solves the problem.

If not, maybe one of these will work

You found a cab file that you need to install.

Install through the Device Manager

Spoiler

  1. At C:\SWSetup, create two folders Downloads and Drivers
  2. Download the driver.cab file to c:\SWSetup\Downloads.
  3. Extract it:
  4. Right-click the CAB file and choose Extract All.. ., or
  5. Using the Windows commmand prompt, paste this command:
    expand -F:* C:\SWSetup\Downloads\driver.cab C:\SWSetup\Drivers

  6. Open Device Manager.
  7. Right-click the device that needs the driver and select Update driver.
  8. Select Browse my computer for drivers.
  9. Browse to the folder where you extracted the CAB file.
  10. Make sure Include subfolders is checked.
  11. Click Next

A walkthrough of installing a known WebCam driver is here
Note that the driver is already "known" so there is no need to search for the folder as in the above .cab instructions.

Let me know what you find out.

Hi, Tony:

Try manually installing the driver from the Microsoft Update Catalog website:

1st one on the list.

Microsoft Update Catalog

Since this is a cabinet file you have to use a free file utility such as 7-Zip to extract the cabinet file into a folder so you can manually install the drivers.

7-Zip

After you install 7-Zip, right click on the cabinet file you downloaded, then select 7-Zip from the list of items on the menu.

Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the file into that long file folder name.

After that is done, go to the device manager, click on the Intel SST audio device, click on the driver tab, click on update driver.

Select the 'Browse my computer for drivers' option and browse to the driver folder that 7-Zip created.

Make sure that the include subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.

Then restart the PC.

The device should be in the System devices section in the device manager according to this Intel link:
