Hi @Agyabeng,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It is not typical for the power button light to stay on after shutting down your HP Spectre x360 (2024). This behavior might indicate an issue with the power settings or the hardware. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.
Check Power Settings:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Click on Choose what the power buttons do.
- Ensure that the settings for When I press the power button and When I close the lid are set to Shut down.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off the laptop and disconnect it from any external power source.
- Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power source and turn on the laptop to see if the issue persists.
Update BIOS and Drivers:
- Ensure that your BIOS and all system drivers are up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Support Assistant or the HP website.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and install any available updates.
Run HP Diagnostics:
- Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for any hardware issues. You can access it by pressing F2 during startup.
Check for Background Processes:
- Sometimes, background processes can prevent the system from shutting down completely. Open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check if there are any running processes before you shut down.
Reset Power Plans:
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the following command:
powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
Advanced Power Settings:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
- Look for Power buttons and lid > Power button action, and ensure it's set to Shut down.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
